A cooperative effort between the Greater Loudonville Association (GLA) and the Shaker Rd. Fire Department, fire trucks will be visiting designated streets, traveling slowly with lights and intermittent sirens sounding. When children are spotted, the fire engine will slow down so Santa and the crew can wave, greet, and give happy holiday wishes.
Said GLA President, Darcy Harding, “We want our Loudonville community to know that we are still here, thinking about them during this strange and challenging time, and looking forward to the day we can all be together again."
Jonathan Schroll, Chief of the Shaker Rd – Loudonville Fire Department (SRLFD), added, “The members of the Shaker Rd – Loudonville FD are excited to partner with GLA to escort Mr. and Mrs. Claus through the neighborhoods on our shiny red fire trucks for the very first time. Our men and women firefighters, with families of their own, know how important it is to give, share, and help out, especially during the holiday season with COVID. We look forward to seeing you all soon!"
The Santa holiday tour will take place on December 19, 2020. Two fire engines will take two separate routes in Loudonville to cover as many neighborhoods of Loudonville as possible.
GLA volunteers Peg and Leon Hovish will play the role of Mr. and Mrs. Claus for the fire engine visiting neighborhoods off of Route 9 and the surrounding area while SRLFD will have 2nd Santa, courtesy of a volunteer firefighter visiting the Albany Shaker Road neighborhoods. The SRLFD is generously donating the use of their equipment and a dozen volunteers to pull off the first-ever Santa Neighborhood Tour.
The fire engines will visit their assigned neighborhoods starting at 11 am. For more details about routes and approximate times, please visit https://www.greaterloudonville.org/post/gla-spreads-good-cheer-with-live-online-holiday-events
There will be no make-ups due to inclement weather or emergency responses.
On a final note, Darcy Harding added, “on behalf of myself and the members of the GLA we wish you a safe and healthy holiday. We invite you to visit our website and Facebook page to experience our virtual holiday events and to participate in our holiday contests! Please consider joining the GLA.”
*** RSVPing isn't required to partcipate in this event although it does help us gauge community participation and it would be a great way for us to connect with you in the future about GLA events and activities!
