The Longest Winter
As my term as President comes to a close, the world around us is vastly different than when it started. We went through a bitter winter that didn't want to end, with a pandemic, recession and civil unrest occupying our daily lives and cancelling events around the globe, including our Spring Fling and the annual 4th of July celebration. Winter started for the GLA in October, when our Fall Family Festival was snowed out, and continued in November when the Tree Lighting fell victim to a blizzard. Thankfully the Holiday Party went off as planned, and provided some needed joy with music, food and libations that warmed the soul.
It is easy to lose sight of the many blessings right outside our door, with the noise from the media and social media invading our psyche every minute. But the beauty of our landscape, the history of our community and the people who are our neighbors have kept me grounded and confident in our ability to carry on. From Loudonville Elementary to Siena College, Schuyler Meadows to Wolferts Roost, St. Pius to Loudonville Christian – and every other institution in between – Loudonville provides an exceptional place to live, learn, grow and experience life. That is why in the last 30 years my family has moved 3 times, into 3 different homes, all within a mile of each other, and all in Loudonville. It is a way of life worth fighting for, and I am grateful for the dedication of the GLA Board members who take that responsibility very seriously.
Loudonville has come through these crises largely unscathed, and I can’t think of a place that I would rather live, or neighbors I would rather share these experiences with. It has been an honor to serve the GLA as President, and to get to know the hard working members of the Board, and the people that inhabit our humble Hamlet. If you feel as I do, the GLA Board welcomes you, and I strongly encourage you to attend a meeting, participate in an event, and join the Board if you want to help make a difference. I leave the Association in the capable hands of Darcy Harding, who will lead us into the roaring 20’s, and with all of your help keep life in Loudonville the rich experience we all cherish.
